2025: Tyler's Long Awaited New Stories!
2025: Tyler's Long Awaited New Stories!
Following the work we did with Tyler when exploring the trauma he experienced from police abuse in 2023 (as seen below under the heading "My Police Abuse"), Tyler mentioned that he was also stabbed later that year. We worked with him throughout 2024 at Southwark Youth Justice Service to record several more videos, which have just been edited in 2025 and are now ready for viewing!
There are a total of six videos, each covering different stages of Tyler's experiences. These include the stabbing itself, how Tyler tended to his wound, how the stabbing affected his life, the challenges he still faces with the police, and how he eventually received the support he needed to start addressing these new issues.
As part of a therapeutic process, Tyler’s motivation for making these videos with Eyeminds was to help him share his trauma with his family, as he found it difficult to explain on his own.

Champion Children are a new prospective client that had requested a few videos to show their young people what Eyeminds do; these three videos here show two distinct topics (between Tyler and Francesca) and a behinds-the-scences view of how some of our work is produced with young people too.
Tylers video was produced and directed by Eyeminds, as such we had freedom on how the story was told through both our and Tylers eyes, which we feel resulted in a true representation of Tylers thoughts and feelings, while positioning his situation is a wider social/justice context affecting young people today.
Tylers motivation for making this video with Eyeminds was so that he could use it to show his trauma to his family, as he felt he was struggling to explain this to them by himself.
(Re)edited for Champion Children:

Tylers Story:

Adolescent Sure Start Project:
Mixed - BTS Role
Franscesca's Story:
"Not as Hard as I thought"
Francesca's video was co-produced and co-directed with the client, City Gateway, our brief was to tell Francesca's story within the context of City Gateway as as organisation. As such, we focused on her struggle with education and showed how CG helped her to overcome this. As a joint project, we wanted to show how CG and Eyeminds were involved in the process, while, of course, maintaining focus on Francesca herself.
This video was then used as a promotional tool presented to CG clients and prospective stakeholders, as well as existing and prospective young people, ecouraging them to enroll onto future CG courses.
The ASSP was filmed over 9 months and included a diverse range of young people. This was another joint project, where it was improtant to show how the service itself was included in the process. There are three distinct topics overall but this short video takes a few of the key elements and blends them to show how Eyeminds worked with both the young people and the service staff too.
As a community project, these videos were later presented to our local community in Soutwark to promote the work of the ASSP while raising awareness of the various topical issues affecting young people.
- Please scroll down to see more work with Tyler and City Gateway as well as the full videos with the ASSP. There is also a follow up video story concerning Tyler getting stabbed (after this police abuse) that will be posted here by the end of January 2025...

Eyeminds had supported this young person who recieved a referral order from the Youth Justice Service to carry out unpaid work at Community Cycleworks, to repair a stolen bike that was to be returned to the young person it was stolen from.
Established in 2012, Community Cycleworks helps people overcome some of the common barriers to cycling. BikeFix is a repair session delivered at our workshops or other community locations. Focusing mainly on young people 10-18 years, as well as an increasing number of local adults too, participants are supported by trained instructors and volunteers to learn and undertake repairs on their own bikes enabling them to become more self-sufficient and save money.
Community Cycleworks is a not for profit organisation that works to promote cycling to young people and their families.
Although this young person was willing to document his experience on video, he was concerned about being linked to Cycleworks and if a particular gang in the area knew this location, that may put him at risk of harm. As a solution, we suggested obscuring his face in all of the shots taken here.

“By co-writing scripts alongside young people, Eyeminds
was able to portray an inside view of various
issues affecting young people"
VIDEO ONE:

I collaborated with the ASSP to produce three distinct videos addressing personal, familial and social issues affecting young people. By co-writing scripts and directing alongside these youths and ASS staff, we created a safe space for them to express their feelings. This work facilitated therapeutic expression; helping these young people articulate matters they struggled to express independently. These videos were later presented to our local youth community and other youth services to promote the work of the ASSP.
SOUTHWARK ADOLESCENT SURE START
SOUTHWARK ADOLESCENT SURE START

This video explores issues concerning parental supervision, the impacts of financial pressures on family members as well as issues around criminal exploitation and children’s vulnerabilities. This is a transitional scene that blends between each of the topics to gain both the parent’s and child’s perspectives.
Family Pressures and Young People Risk and Exploitation
VIDEO TWO:
This video looks at pressure on children, parental relationship breakdown, poor mental health and struggles getting into edication and employment. The script was written by two young people drawing on lived experience. The scenes are shot from the perspective of the character, without actually seeing them, this style allowed the young people who wrote the script to be in full creative control.
Relationships, Trauma and Children Caring Responsibilities
VIDEO THREE:
This video shows how young people may struggle with physical fitness when influenced by social media with miss-representations about what it means to be fit and look good. It raises issues about the barriers young people have towards becoming healthy and the financial pressures that parents are under due to the cost of living and how this can further impact on young people’s health.

Tyreeks journey at City Gateway began with him enrolling onto their Route to Employment course that builds a young person skills and confidence by working with a one-to-one Mentor. Eyeminds supported a mentor named Rebecca to take these photos above by providing her with one of our Lumix DSLR cameras to provide snapshots of Tyreeks progress at City Gateway.

In addition to working on the employment course, Tyreek also showed an interest in the work Eyeminds was doing to create content for the companies website. As such, we also provide Tyreek with a camera so that he could take photographs of other young people on courses at CG too., which made them feel confortable with another student accessing their work space, therefrore promoting participation and inclusion supported by Eyeminds.

Eyeminds later invited Tyreeks to an Eyeminds studio, taking his creativity one step further by providing him with a free modelling shoot at one of our PopUp studios. As you will see form the slide show/video Eyeminds created, The motivation for this was a strategyto build up his confidence in front of the camera, before he sat for any employer interviews. These pictures were all edited by Eyeminds and gifted to Tyreek.

“This young person used a video interview
to communicate his feelings to his family... "

As a volunteer Reparation Mentor with the YJS for almost four years now, Jason at Eyeminds was mentoring a young person who had been stabbed, feared gang retaliation and police abuse, making it difficult for him to discuss his experiences, especially on camera. To protect his identity and build trust, I suggested composing photos that obscured his face. This approach allowed him to feel safe, eventually leading to two structured video interviews where he could openly reflect on his trauma. The process then led to a positive transition in this young person’s perspective, as he began to see himself in a new and positive light...
As you see, there are several issues that Tyler has been dealing with that are discussed in the full (second) interview video; the first video is an introduction. Whichever you choose to view, there is enough content to explain what this young person has been going through..

Eyeminds provided all the equipment to host the Learners Event for City Gateway in 2021, where the BBC amongst other employers attended to celebrate the young peoples progression as well as an opportunity for them to network face to face with the various employers. Eyeminds provided the lighting, audio, PA system and a two man camera crew consisting of Eyeminds and a CG staff mentor, to video record the event, especially the moment that Tyreek was given his BBC apprenticeship and in the edit, Eyeminds worked with Tyreek to reflect on his journey leading up to the BBC, which can be seen in the video here.

As you will see, Eyeminds was onsite at City Gateways offices and set up an interview recording room with two cameras, audio with shotgun mic feed into an external reecording device. While Eyeminds focused on the videoing, we gave a member of staff a quick overview of how to operate the Zoom Hn5 handheld audio recorder with Sony MDR 7506 headphones for monitoring. Speaking into a Rode NTG4+. we upported another member for staff to condut the interview and ask questions to the young person. Nothing was rehersed, yet Francess was amazing at sharing her story, althogh it was her first time in front of the camera which also helped to build up her confidence too.

Eyeminds supported Roadworks by filming the actual workshop where young people were training to use video equipment. Not only did we need to capture the video elements behind the camera but also to make sure we had a focus on the young person in front of the camera. As this is a safe and supported environment, while videoing we often took time out to check in with the young people to make sure they were comfortable with the content being created as these were quite sensitive experiences they had gone throuh.

It forms a bridge with the council, institutions, and charities, enabling local residents to showcase the wealth of talent within the community and creating opportunities for local people to initiate and develop solutions to local issues. With the increasing and fast regeneration in the borough, Pempeople aims to ensure that local residents benefit from the rapid changes within the area.

To conduct our photoshoots, Eyeminds had improtant elements to consider in order to work in this envorinment; for power, we had to run a 50 meter power cord to take electricty from the main outlet point, raher than plugging into the many plug points around the garage, This was so that our power signal wouldn't fail since lighting was such a issues under there. With the amount of equipment we required, we decided to rent a unit for ourselves at the LEX, at which point we were able to resolve many of the challenges when doing photoshoots out on location.
Eyeminds was fortunate enough to be shooting as one young person while his particular art piece was taking shape, we did by following this Artist from the first mark he made on his canvass, to him then mounting his completed work. To facilitate this, Eyeminds had set up our mobile lighting rig and chained several lights upon it so we could provide enough lighting in this underground while being sure that our equipment was safe and secure. Check out these amazing photos, we're sure you going to just as enthralled as we were to see this young persons art and imagination taking shape. The other young person shown here was actually his girlfriend who was also compiling her form of artwork too.
